Free Cookie

"If you visit our website and complete the survey, you will receive a free cookie with your next purchase."

After my son's swim practice, he had decided that he wanted a sandwich from Subway and this was how our server said goodbye.

She offered the alluring potential of a free cookie.

This got me thinking.

Isn't that what life is all about?

Free cookies?

I can't think of a better way to lighten a moment or secure a friendship other than bringing out a tasty and moderately-sized baked morsel.

"Hey, Brother.  Care for a cookie?'

"Yo Dog.  Cookie comin' your way."

"Check it.  I got you a cookie."

Unless someone is diabetic or allergic, a cookie is the perfect olive branch to extend in times of distress.

"Sorry I slept with your mother.  Would you like a cookie?"

"Say, man.  I pawned your class ring a couple of months ago and blew the money on drugs.  Here's a cookie."

Yeah, I can't think of any circumstance where a free cookie is not going to work.

  1. One of the fondest memories of my childhood when going to elementary school was stopping by this old lady's house (I think she was a widow) on the way home from school. She always had a cookie for us.
I've forgotten a lot about those years (over sixty years ago - late 1940's), my God has it been that long?) but that is one thing I have never forgotten. Her kindness and how good that cookie tasted.
You're right Liberty, a cookie works every time.
