From Wood Shavings to Hot Sparks

On Friday night, my family and I were privileged to be invited to the premier of a wonderful documentary about Milford, Delaware and its historic shipbuilding economy.  Entitled "From Wood Shavings to Hot Sparks," the film follows the Vinyard Shipyard through its existence.
Sudler and Joan Lofland purchased the business and have painstakingly returned it back to the glory years, including the machinery, and more importantly, a handful of boats.
I have been heavy with visuals and moving pictures of late, but here is a small six minute movie of the launching of the Augusta, a Vinyard pleasure yacht that was built in 1927.  The Loflands have brought  her back through time and there is no question that Sonny Vinyard is somewhere out there beaming with pride.
The grand thing is that as I type this down, I am perched in his wingback chair that I had restored five years ago.  Not as cool as a boat, but every little bit helps.

Showings of the film will be held Saturday, August 28th, at the Riverfront Theatre on Walnut Street in downtown Milford. Showtimes are at 7:00pm and 8:30pm. Tickets are $15.00 per couple or $10.00 per individual. Tickets can be purchased at the Mispillion Art League, Milford Public Library and the Milford Museum

  2. There is nothing more beautiful than a wooden boat! Thank you so much for saving her, restoring her and saving the shipyard!
