Eye Patch

While hunched over a bowl of cereal

my son informed me 
that pirates who wore

eye patches

were not necessarily half blind.

He said it gave them 

night vision.

He explained that when in dark circumstances,

pirates would switch the patch  over to the other socket and their newly exposed peeper was then already prepared for low lighting.

"Rods and Cones".

His attention returned to his Cocoa Snapz, and the conversation ended with the sound of crunching. 
 I looked him over suspiciously.

How does he know that
and why didn't I?
